Rock & Gem Show Goodness

On October 2nd, my dad and I wandered over to Prairieland Park for another Rock & Gem show put on by Silver Cove. We’ve been to many of these shows but it’s always fun to see what’s there and get a good walk in while you’re drooling at all the shiny geological goodness.

To be clear, neither I or anyone in my family is a “crystals can heal all that ails you” kind of people. In fact, it’s the science end of things that are fascinating for nerds like us. The fact that ordinary chemicals that are subjected to immense pressure for hundreds of thousands of year come out as something looking completely different is mindboggling even after seeing the chemical equations. Or being able to hold the remains of an animal that hasn’t existed here on Earth for millions of years is really humbling to me.

I was tempted to take my Nikon DSLR and set of close up filters to the event but I wanted to be a bit more conspicuous so I just used my Google Pixel 9 Pro XL. Despite flipping it into RAW mode, I’m not sure why it changed after the first few pics. Typically, the setting remain until you manually change it but for whatever reason, it didn’t do as told. Having said that, even though the RAW format is usually nicer to edit in Adobe since you have more information to play around with but this time, with the few RAW photos it took, I actually found the JPEGs easier to edit.

Next show, I think I will take my DSLR to play with but until then, enjoy what I captured this time!
