World Astronomy Day – spring edition – took place this year on May 11th. It’s an outreach day to show the public the wonders of the night sky. The Saskatoon Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada is also doing a monthly Random Acts of Astronomy event with the same goal so it was perfect when the two days lined up.
Two sets of amateur astronomers set up telescopes around town. One team was at the weir and me and another couple of guys were at River Landing viewing and showing off the first quarter moon in all its glory. We had maybe 50 people swing past our station to peer into our telescopes and talk about all things lunar and astronomical. The weather was gorgeous and the clouds didn’t roll in until we were packing up. What a wonderful evening!
