Wabbit Season

It’s been way too long since I last updated this site so, I better get cracking with some good stories! Not that there’s much of a story to go with these photos. Back in the spring, we started noticing more and more jackrabbits in our street. While they’ve been bouncing around our neighborhood being adorable for the past few years, this was a bit different. This seemed more like we had a long-eared loiterer! Then, in mid-May, I stepped out of the house early in the morning and what did I see? Well…actually, I thought it was some kind of mysterious rock on our lawn. Or maybe an anti hill suddenly appeared. But then, it moved and bounced, and oh my, was it ever the cutest little ball of fluff! Suddenly, the idea of a long-eared loiterer made sense – we had a rabbit family in our crescent!

About a week later, I stepped outside to help my dad water the front lawn and I saw a large ball of fluff sitting on the lawn but this time, I knew right away what it was – Mama Bun! At least, that’s my name for her. Usually, I can’t come close to any of the neighborhood jackrabbits because they’re so skittish. But Mama Bun was in no hurry to run away from me. In fact, she barely showed any concern for me standing there snapping pictures of her with my big DSLR.

I didn’t see too much of Mama Bun after that but I really do hope she returns next year with another brood of baby bunbuns!
