Silly me! I’ve been fiddling and fussing with so many different things but then, I forget to post them to show everyone! Here are a couple of my more recent projects.
I had seen posts for a crocheted purse called a ‘bend beenies bag’ on a crocheting Facebook group and after seeing all the gorgeous versions of the bag that others were making, I thought I’d try my hand at one of my own. The pattern really wasn’t too difficult, even for a novice like myself but I do regret not lining the bag as I probably should have. In my defence, when I got to the point at which the pattern said to add the lining, it really didn’t look like it was going to be big enough to be of any use so I decided against it. When I finished it though, I realized that while it’s a small purse, it’s still big enough to use. Live and learn, right? I’m still loving the result! I just need to find something to use as a clasp. I have a few skeins of yarn left from this project too so I may end up making a matching hat and scarf too. Or is that just way too coordinated for Saskatoon?
I’ve also been working on my sewing as well. I’ve started using my mom’s expensive machine since…well…like most people my age, I like technology and it’s way too much fun to play with the fancy touch screen! Besides, it’s not like she’s using it much right now as she’s a bit too intimidated by the computerized embroidery feature. Anyway, one of the things that I really wanted to make for myself was a bolster (a cylindrical pillow) for practising yoga. Several years ago, I starting taking classes in Iyengar yoga and I just got too used to/comfortable with all the props, especially the bolster. As it’s not a particularly complicated thing, I didn’t really need a pattern for it or for the drawstring pillowcase that I made for it. Of course, that’s also why I don’t have a picture for it. I do, however, have another picture or my sewing that I’d rather show.
It occurred to me awhile back that I haven’t sewed anything from a real pattern which is a little silly for someone just learning to sew, right? While out and about one day, I stopped at a local fabric shop and saw this adorable flannelette fabric with the ‘Little Miss’ characters on it – a childhood favourite! I knew that I had to make pyjamas out of it so as soon as I got home, I started looking online for patterns and lo and behold, Simplicity had a free pattern online for baggy pyjama bottoms. I printed the pattern out (Simplicity 0501) and raced back to the store to buy the fabric. Now, I have to admit that the pattern wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Perhaps, because of my science background and love of cooking, I prefer my instruction to be a bit more…shall we say, efficient but the overall outcome of the project is still pretty awesome if I may say so myself.
I still have a few other things on the go as well as numerous ideas for crocheting and sewing. I’m also working on other hobbies too so stay tuned for more from me!
