Back in the spring of this year, I went to Pike Lake with my mom and hiked the short walking trail with her. Something very curious happened though. As we walked, chickadees started following us, bouncing from tree branch to tree branch as we went along. We also saw a couple of squirrels who came close enough to us to see but after a minute or so of watching them, they got very angry and started barking at us. Now, we assumed that this maybe had something to do with us getting too close to they’re nests.
But after my hike through Beaver Creek a month and a half ago, I realized that what these critters actually wanted was food. Having grown up with a variety of pets in my life, I should have known better. Maybe I’m too city-fied and that’s why it didn’t click. Anyway, my mom and I went to walk the trail again yesterday but this time, with a baggie of seed. It didn’t take long before we saw our first birds. Here are some of the pictures we took.
