This weekend, there was a Wildlife Festival at Prairieland Park put on by The Canadian Raptor Conservancy, Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo and The Backyard Conservation Fund of Canada. Of course, I love critters so I had to check it out! Silly Sally here didn’t think to bring her DSLR though so cell phone photos will have to suffice. Sorry!
Luckily, we got there just as the birds of prey show was beginning. A couple of different hawks, an owl, and an eagle were all brought out and other than the eagle, all demonstrated their incredible flying and hunting skills.
After the show, we wandered around some of the exhibits. The pictures below definitely aren’t all the animals that were there, but what can I say, tarantulas aren’t that interesting to me! There were so many different reptiles like iguanas, snakes, and crocs not to mention turtles and toads that it really made for in interesting afternoon, even if it was more geared toward kids. We’re all young at heart though, aren’t we?
One last thing, the guy from the Canadian Raptor Conservancy who did the birds of prey show mentioned that Canada currently doesn’t have a national bird. Everyone just assumes that it’s the Canada Goose but in fact, there’s no official declaration. However, their website does have a petition to get the Red-tailed Hawk named as Canada’s official bird. It may be smaller that the great Bald Eagle but watching him fly, you can see it’s a pretty darn impressive bird too!
