After another bout of flu this weekend, I desperately needed some time outside of the house. But it’s a little hard to commune with nature at this time of year when you’re still recovering so I hit one of my favorite places in town to breathe in a bit of life and have some fun practising one of my hobbies, photography.
Yes, I hit the Mendel Art Gallery Civic Conservatory and what do you expect to see in a conservatory in December? Poinsettias, of course! Okay, and amaryllises too but the plant that seems to be most linked with the season these days is the poinsettia and I was more than happy to wander around and take pictures of them.
It’s a little funny though seeing certain plants standing alongside others. The conservatory has some permanent residents like huge banana trees and it’s odd enough looking at bananas in December but even funnier while photographing poinsettia foliage. As I desperately needed a new profile picture for my social media accounts, I thought this clash was perfect for a selfie…or maybe not! Clearly, I need to practise selfie photography as well as other types of photography but I digress!
I, of course, wandered to the river briefly to try to snap a few pictures of the river. I always love stopping along the dock anyway to collect my thoughts and I definitely could have used it today but alas, to blow a fierce wind my way so I only really had time to snap a pictures.
It’s funny though how every time I head down there, I always find something to take a picture of. I’ve grown up in this city, seen the river millions of times, stood on that spot hundreds of times and yet, I still choose to take pictures; I still have to different ways to show this place to everyone. I think there’s a lesson here!
