It happens sooner or later. The seasons march on and when they do, the season of cold eventually comes to freeze our buns off. So, like busy beavers, we empty our flower pots and pack away our patio furniture. In the midst of all this work, I decided to take one last trip before cleaning and storing away my kayak. Off to Pike Lake I went!
The weather was very nice for the third week of October. I found a calm day and headed out to Pike Lake. The great thing about this time of year is that the weeds in the lake die off from the colder temperatures so it’s easier to paddle. But I noticed too that there were fewer reedy plants too. It almost seemed like half the lake was cleaned up. I love it but I hope it didn’t cause too much harm and/or hassle for the wildlife who frequent the lake.
The neat thing about seeing more of the lake was the number of beaver dams that Pike Lake holds. I snapped a couple of pictures of these wild architectural wonders.
And as usual, I tried to get a bit artsy with some of the plant life that hasn’t yet fallen into the waters to be broken down into nutrients for the plantlife next year.
I even took my folks and my fluffy Bella to Pike Lake with me for some fresh fall air.
It was a lovely trip all around and I’m looking forward to more paddling next year. In the meantime, stay tuned for my first snowshoe trip!
