This summer has been a hot one! I’m not sure but I believe that we reached 38C one day. Drought conditions are definitely bad for the economy and for food security but it also sucks rocks when it’s one of your migraine triggers. So much of my summer has involved hiding in the basement and complaining that we need to turn up the air conditioner. Thankfully, nothing lasts forever including summer in Saskatoon. Of course, when the heat goes, the wind comes but that’s just nature. Luckily, I had the chance to hit the river for the first time this summer for a bit of a paddle. All pictures below were taken with my Google Pixel 4a smartphone and edited with Adobe Lightroom.
The best thing besides the beautiful downtown scenery was the geese. At first, I didn’t see any waterfowl other than a couple of seagulls. I paddled to the University Bridge and almost as soon as I turned around to head back to the boat launch at the Broadway Bridge, these geese were everywhere. Swimming next to me, in front of me, flying in, flying out – a couple even started bullying another and used my kayak as a buffer! I know they’re loud and grumpy but I love watching them so much. Hope to get out again very soon!
