It’s always difficult to sit down and have any ‘me’ time during the holiday season. There’s always a million things to do so the million things you were doing before suddenly get pushed to the back burner. I have to admit that I love the holiday season. Not for any religious reasons, of course but every culture has or have had some kind of celebration in and around the winter solstice and it’s nice to be a part of that heritage. Okay, it’s really just food and drink that brings us back every year but still, there’s definitely a sense of family and communities during this time of year and I really wish more people would remember that.
Now, being that my family is from Eastern Europe, we celebrate Christmas but not according to the Gregorian calender. Using the old Julian calendar, Christmas falls on January 7th…which is why I’m still musing about that holiday season even though most people around ‘Xmas-ed’ out! But it’s precisely this reason that is making me write this post: the calender has turned over, the partying is done, and now it’s time to look forward.
This year is definitely going to bring about a number of changes for me. I will be finishing my OH&S Practitioner courses this spring and will looking for my first job in this new field. A whole host of other changes will obviously come with that too which is both exciting and nerve wracking. In fact, so much will likely change that I don’t even know how to continue this post other than to say that I’m optimistic that this will be my best year! Wish me luck!
