Today, I headed back to one of my favorite walking spots: Beaver Creek. But instead of taking one of the trails along the creek, I decided to hit the 3.2km Living Sky Trail that goes around the conservation area showing off both the prairie landscape as well as the South Saskatchewan River. I hiked this 60-minute trail once over 10 years ago, but haven’t been since for one reason or another.
Other that a few tails, I didn’t really see any birds although I think one may have followed me a bit along the river since I could hear it’s song. Mostly what I saw were wildflowers and insects. Okay, mostly mosquitos, but also some grasshoppers and butterflies. There were also a lot of deer tracks and various…ahem, scat was left on the trails too. Funny to think that animals like our trails instead of carving their own! Anyway, when I hit the last steep hill back up towards the information centre, I saw what looked like a coyote in the distances scampering away from me. Unfortunately, I had the wrong lens in my camera. Maybe next time, I’ll hike it with my zoom lens!
