A few months ago, I came across a campaign in the US where women who are upset with politicians passing laws that take away the human rights of women were urged to knit or a crochet a uterus and send it to one of these awful ‘politicians’. The idea being that if your congressman (or whomever) has a uterus of his own, he might leave yours alone! It’s a great way to inject a bit of humour into an absurd and appalling situation.
But if you’ve read my blog at all, you’ll know that I’ve also been working hard on learning to crochet. Needless to say that as soon as I saw one of the free patterns posted online, I got to work right away! Here’s the finished product:
Pretty nifty, isn’t it?! I definitely have to practice my decreasing stitches and generally speaking, to get a better feel for working from written patterns but I’m still quite proud of this.
And I’m also proud of the women (and men) who are fighting hard against the oppression of women and the Draconian laws that enslave women’s reproductive capabilities. People without any real knowledge of medicine and/or biology are making decisions that are turning us into objects and slaves and that is beyond unacceptable. In fact, it’s downright criminal. But perhaps most importantly, it hurts everyone. We’re all humans, regardless of what’s dangling between our legs so let’s act like it!
