Labour Day weekend is the time for one of Saskatoon’s newer festivals: a fireworks festival. It’s only been going on for a few years – their website is a little vague on the actual year it began – but, it’s proving to be one of the better festivals in town and a great way to say goodbye to summer. I usually avoid these kinds of events because of parking issues but, I had the chance to go last year and discovered that it’s not as bad as one would think if you’re both smart and early!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go to both nights of this year’s two-day festival but, I did head out on day one to watch the display from Team Philippines. After a coffee and a catch-up at a coffee shop downtown, my friend and I walked the few blocks to Broadway Bridge and found a great viewing spot dead center on the walkway. Perhaps next year I’ll take my DSLR but, this year, I decided to try some pictures with my cell phone. They’re not the best but, I was pleasantly surprised, especially since I wasn’t actually looking at the screen while taking the pictures! After all, I was there to enjoy the show so, I made the photos secondary – just set up the shot, click away, and hope something came out. It was truly a wonderful display. I wonder how Team Canada did…
