After a freezing start to the new year, I’ve been desperately wanting to get out of town and commune with nature. I’ve also been desperately looking for an excuse to take out my DSLR and start taking pictures again. So, on March 5th, I headed out to Pike Lake for the afternoon to partake in a few of my favourite winter activities including, feeding and taking pictures the birds.
Few things in this world calm my soul more than being out with my feathered friends. And I was lucky this time to see a few different kinds of birds including white-breasted nuthatches and red poles.
The real stars though are the chickadees and they were definitely out in full force. With temperatures reaching below -40C this winter, they must have used up a lot of fat trying to keep warm and I was more than happy to help them get plump again. I can’t wait for my next trip out there!
