Yes everyone, I received my certificate in the mail today saying that I have completed the standard first aid/CPR/AED course at SIAST. I admit to having had some problems with the course administratively which I won’t discuss here but the course itself was quite easy and I’m glad I did it.
That makes me wonder though why more companies don’t require it of their staff. I had to take first aid as a part of my OH&S practitioner certificate to graduate (I’ve been wanting to do it anyway for a while now) but it seems like such an important thing to have regardless. Yes, accidents are rare but knowing what to do when something happen is important. And not just at work. Most accidents happen at home!
Okay, I know it all comes down to money. After all, that’s what took me so long to do the course again after 10 years. But I definitely recommend that everyone should have at least some knowledge of first aid. If for no other reason than to save me from having to perform first aid on some poor soul! (I’m just kidding!)
