Calgary Trip – Day 2

The big thing to do in Calgary, I’m sorry to say, is to go shopping.  It’s not that there aren’t lovely touristy places to go to but Alberta really is about cheap shopping and my trip certainly had some of that.  But day 2 wasn’t all shopping.

It's Herbie!!!
It’s Herbie! And apparently, he lives in Calgary!

My brother took me to a place called the Shooting Edge to learn more about his new hobby.  Guess what kind of hobby!  After extensive gun safety talks, I had a chance to try out a few of the guns he’s accumulated so far including a couple of rifles, a pistol, and a shotgun.  I would love to tell you exactly what kind they all were but…I don’t have the best memory of things like that!  But if you know guns, take a look at a few of the pictures we took there.  I have to admit that I had fun trying these out if for no other reason than the fact that it’s given me a new outlook on guns in the movies.  It’s not that easy to blow someone’s head off with a hand gun!  And those shotguns?  The recoil is insane!  If movies and TV shows want to be accurate, they would show the gangsters all sitting around at home with bags of ice on their shoulders because there’s no way you can shot that much and not hurt yourself.  Or maybe that’s just marshmallowy me!  Either way though, for my first time, I actually did pretty well!

One of the odder things that we did is something that…well, I didn’t realize was actually a thing.  The airport in Calgary built a viewing area at the end of one of the runways.  It’s a very neat idea and I hope Sasaktoon’s airport takes note because it was definitely interesting to see all the planes flying in.  We just happened to be doing a little shopping in the area but by the time we were done, we couldn’t really justify heading for dinner right away so we went to this viewing area where, despite the rain, quite a few other cars were hanging out there.  Okay, this doesn’t sound like something noteworthy enough to put in a post about one’s vacation but…it does explain this picture I took of one of the signs at this viewing area.  Unfortunately, there was one of these crafts that we didn’t see but…maybe next time!

Huh! That's an interesting aircraft!

Lots of food and drinks rounded off day 2.  Food, drink, and planning for day 3…..  Stay tuned for more holiday adventures!
