It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the Northern Lights. This is partly due to me not really paying attention to alerts and also because lately, they seem to occur after I’ve gone to bed. When I was younger, the Northern Lights were pretty bright in my neighborhood but Saskatoon’s light pollution problem is rapidly erasing the night sky so sometimes, it’s not that obvious either. But on March 13th, as I stepped out to take the dog for a quick walk before bed, I saw the green fairies!
So, I did what any photographer would do – I ran back to the house to grab my camera and car keys and I set off for the nearby North East Swale, a protected natural area with endangered species that is being destroyed by the city. Slowly but surely, my astrophotography is getting better but once again, I forgot about a certain camera setting but that’s okay. It’s just an excuse to get out and take more pictures!
