A tragedy made worse

I just want to post a quick note today to express my condolences to the people of Norway.  I’m still in shock over the events that occurred yesterday; tragic doesn’t even begin to describe what happened.

I would also like to apologize for the behavior of my country men/women.  Many Canadians seem to be posting some absolutely disgusting things online.  Unfortunately, the media has not done even a decent job of informing us about these horrific acts.  We get live feeds from the toilet of the White House when a president takes a crap (okay, I’m exaggerating…but not by much) but events in other countries are often hidden from us.  I do understand that many important things have been happening lately and we should be informed of these stories as well but the weighting of the news stories and events have not been accurately portrayed.

It’s possible that our media didn’t want to publicize this due to a lack of a live stream from the scene.  A more sinister possibility is that they knew the killer was a right wing extremist and decided that they need to protect their right wing views (the political leanings of the media moguls is well known).  But whatever the reason, it is unacceptable.

Shame on you CTV Newsnet and CBC Newsworld!

And best wishes to Norway as they begin picking up the pieces.
