We’ve been so spoiled in Saskatoon this winter. Yes, we had a major dump of snow and a crazy snow squall earlier in January but the temperatures have been fairly mild (compared to the usual winters here.) But once again, Mother Nature threw a wrench into things by giving us a few super frosty days. How cold? -35C cold!!!
Starting vehicles in such cold weather isn’t always an easy task. Even with a block heater, the extreme cold can zap a car battery’s power pretty good. That’s exactly what happened to my parent’s SUV on the morning that my dad needed a ride to City Hospital downtown. So, I jumped into my little Fiat and off we went into the cold. To make a long story short, no, I wouldn’t have gone out in that cold without having to!
Despite being only half awake when I suddenly had to readjust my schedule, I was sharp enough to remember to grab my camera, and oh my, am I glad I did! Not that it was the easiest photoshoot and everything including my camera and cell phone froze, I’m still grateful to have had the chance to revel in the glory that is nature. I love walking by the river but this was extra special.
I did a short video too of my walk to the weir. The crunching of the snow as I walked and the sound of the mini glaciers going over the weir were amazing to experience. Maybe I should force myself to get out in weird conditions more often.
